As this class comes to an end, I am going back to reflect on my improvements as a photographer and a photo-shopper. Since I took two years of Multimedia, I came into this class thinking I knew a good amount of stuff about cameras and photography. I was wrong. This class went into so much more depth about the exposure triangle and now I am much more confident photographing on manual rather than full auto. I remember on the first day of photoshop when I had no idea what any of the tools symbols meant, much less how I was supposed to use things like the clone stamp and the lasso tool. Thinking back to that day and realizing how much I have learned, it's crazy to me. Now I am able to make someone's head look like a forest, or make the pond outside of the school have weird animals roaming around. Some of these assignments were extremely simple and easy, such as the pop-art and panoramic assignments. Others, like the multiple me and open tutorials, were super difficult and frustrating. my best photosmy worst photosmy favorite & least favorite photoshops

This assignment was very similar to the previous assignment, but with this one we chose a word and had to combine different pictures to convey that word. We used layering, brush tools and selection tools. Also I changed the opacity on a couple of the pictures. what i learnedThis assignment was really easy, one thing that was hard was selecting things because sometimes the background was busy so it was hard to not get the background in the selection. I did the words Christmas and Cozy because I love Christmas, and I had good ideas for the word cozy. I just didn't really like this assignment because it didn't really challenge me, I like the more complicated assignments more.
During this assignment, we had to compose photos together and make them into visual puns. We worked with photo sizing, selecting, and Creative Commons. After creating three visual puns, we composed them into one bigger file. what i learnedThis assignment was pretty easy, but I figured out how to do something that was frustrating me in earlier assignments. I learned that if I move the layers around the image (on the layer) will go in front of or behind another layer. This proved to help me a lot, especially with the freezer and fire image. My three puns were "Stuck between a rock and a hard place," "Freezer burn," and "Time Flies."
This was our last photo assignment and so I decided to do food. I took photos of food because we had really good looking muffins so I thought I could make a good photo out of them. no editing doneWhat i learnedAt first, I was going to do Light Painting for this last assignment and I had a really good idea but then it just didn't work out. I think that Food worked though, I really like the ways I positioned the muffins. I learned how to position things to make them look more natural so that my picture isn't super posed.
For this assignment we had to take multiple pictures of one area and one person, but in each photo the person had to be in a different place/position. We learned how to use layer masking and photo stacks. what i learnedThis assignment was the same as the others, and this week I chose to do People. For people, we have to focus on how to use lighting to our advantage and highlight their good parts while somewhat hiding their bad parts. Original photoedited photonext best photoswhat i learnedAt first, this assignment was kind of hard because I wasn't sure how to pose my model, but after we got more comfortable it was easier. We took the Christmas lights off of my wall and used those -- along with my giant bear -- as props. I chose the picture that I did because it doesn't look as posed as the others, but it was really hard for me to choose. I think that yes, the pictures are a little dark, but I think it adds to the picture and makes it look better. The only editing I did was I increased the contrast a little bit and increased the brightness.
In this assignment we were taught about lighting for portrait shots, and we had to take a picture using studio lighting and also using just natural light and a reflector. After taking the two portrait shots, we put them together in photoshop so they were on one image. what i learnedOne of the really important things I learned in this assignment was how to use a reflector, and also where lights should be if I want a more studio looking shot. The reflector shot didn't work that well but I think that is just because it was a kind of gloomy day. The photoshop part of the assignment was a little bit difficult at first, but then I figured out a part I was stuck on and it got much easier.
This assignment was our weekly photo assignment. I chose to do event this week because we were carving pumpkins so I thought I could get some good photos. original photoedited photowhat i learnedThis assignment was easy for me because I used a lot of the skills that I've learned throughout this class. The only editing I did on this photo was I painted the edge of my sister's hand black because there was an orangey glow around it that I didn't really like. One thing that was hard about this assignment was just that whenever I would come around to take pictures of my family members they would take their hands out of the frame, but I wanted to see them working and not just the pumpkin.
This week, instead of being told what to photoshop, we got to go out and find tutorials that interest us. First we did a really easy one, and then we got to choose one or two others. dash of colorMake photos look minihttp://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Achieve-Miniature-Effect-via-Photoshop/ double exposure effecthttps://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/make-a-trendy-double-exposure-effect-in-adobe-photoshop--cms-23774 what i learnedThis assignment was pretty easy, but also somewhat difficult. The Dash of Color and the Mini Photos were super easy and quick. On the other hand, the Double Exposure Effect was really hard. It was hard because I couldn't find a lot of the tools, so toward the end I just stopped looking at the directions and did my own thing. I liked that we were able to choose what to photoshop though, it made it more fun.
This assignment was the same as usual, but this week I chose Animal because my dog is really photogenic. Something different about this week was we have to post both the original photo, and the edited photo. original photoedited photoWhat i learnedThis assignment was hard for me because I had it on manual everything, but no matter what I changed it still came out black. So I had to figure out what I was doing wrong. I also learned that I can't trust auto-focus because the camera isn't able to figure out what to focus on and it just won't let me take a photo. Also, I learned that the lighting in my house isn't very good; it makes the photos come out orange-ish. These assignments keep frustrating me though because the photos I'm turning in aren't my best work, I know I can do better. So I just need to work on time-management and stop waiting till the weekend to take them.
